Small Object Photography Classes

Would you like to take better photos of your work?

Learn how to go from this...                                to this!

Whether you own a basic point-and-shoot digital camera or a fancy DSLR, I can teach you how to use your camera to take fantastic photos of your handmade products!

Private classes and group workshops (up to 6 people) are available by appointment - weekday or weekend, day or evening times. Great for a busy artist like you!

Small Object Photography Classes for Online Shop Owners - Private and Small Group Sessions

You know that product photos can make or break the success of an online shop.
Are your photos working for you? If they're not quite at their best, I'd love to help you learn what it takes to get your photos to pop off the page and entice your customer to buy more stuff!

We'll start our session with an in-depth look at what makes a great product photo work to sell product online - from focus to lighting to backgrounds and composition. We'll also talk about:
  • Navigating your camera's menus to manually adjust its settings
  • Demystifying those daunting technical terms like f-stops, shutter speeds and composition
  • The features to look for if you're in the market for a new camera
  • We'll also look at your current photos and (kindly) and discuss how we can work together to make them better
The second part of our session will be dedicated to hands-on practice including:
  • Further deciphering your camera's functions in an active photo session
  • Guided hands-on practice taking photos of your own work
  • Hands-on practice with a few different lighting set-ups including
    • natural light (daytime sessions only, naturally :)
    • manufactured lightboxes
    • professional standing soft-box lighting
    •  low-cost alternatives to high-priced systems
By the end of class, you'll have the knowledge and confidence to take beautiful photos of your small objects!

You'll need to bring to class the following items:

Required:
  • Your digital camera with fully charged battery
  • Samples of your work to be photographed - especially pieces that are difficult to photograph
Optional:
  • Camera instruction manual (if you still have it)
  • Display materials, paper or other objects to use as backgrounds for your photos
  • URLs of website and/or online shops that feature photos you admire
  • Portable light set-up that you'd like to learn how to use
  • Business cards or other marketing materials illustrating your shop's branding
  • Extra batteries
There will be a short break during each session. Filtered water, a small refrigerator and microwave is available for your use if you'd like to bring a light snack to enjoy during our break.
